Those Were the Days

 Those Were the Days

Those were the days,

Days when seeing each other

It was the happiest moment of our lives.

Today, though we are together,

We don’t see each other; we are glued to our screens

Those happiest moments have become things of the past.

Those were the days,

Days when holding hands

It was the most romantic moment of our lives.

Today, though we sit next to each other,

We don’t hold our hands; instead, we hold our mobiles in our hands

Those romantic moments have become a thing of the past.

Those were the days,

Days when hugging each other

It was the most cherished moment of our lives.

Today, though we sleep next to each other,

We don’t touch each other, and we keep thinking about our future

Those treasured moments have become things of the past

Those were the days,

Days when she sat on my lap

were the most lovable moments of our lives.

Today, though we are closer,

But with our laptops on our laps,

Those lovable moments have become things of the past.

Those were the days,

Days when we talked to each other

They were the most relaxing moments of our lives.

Today, though we do speak,

Our conversations are filled with worries about repaying loans.

Those relaxing moments have become things of the past.

Those were the days,

Days when every outing felt like a date,

The most exciting moments of our lives.

Today, though we go out together,

Our outings are filled with health check-ups and visits to the clinic.

Those exciting moments have become things of the past.

Those were the days,

When we had less money in our hands,

but more peaceful moments in our lives.

Today, though we have more money,

The fear of ageing fills our minds.

Those peaceful moments have become things of the past.

Every phase of life comes with its gains and pains.

Instead of worrying about what comes next,

It is better to bring back those bygone days

into our present lives to cherish every moment,

and age gracefully with harmony in our minds

and peace in our hearts.

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
