Leadership Lesson from An Aeroplane Part-2

Landing: A Good landing can be compared to a year end discussion, a good landing in flight is based on the smooth functioning of the following parts:

Vertical stabilizer- is used for direction stability, in workplace the vertical stabilizer can be compared to a discussion in an appraisal about the growth prospects. There will be situations where the subordinates might not be satisfied with the rating, in such situations the Leader should handle the situation by showing the future direction and what should the subordinate do to maintain stability in their performance, such inputs will reduce the negativity and help the subordinate to get onboard for the next journey

Horizontal Stabilizer-is used for ups and downs, pitching, motion of the aircraft, in workplace Horizontal stabilizer can be compared to a discussion on handling the variation in performance and give valid reasons for the variation and jointly arrive at a solution for a smooth performance.

Rudder-is used to turn the Aeroplane, in workplace Rudder can be compared to turning the conversation to the direction that is fruitful to both the subordinate and the organisation

Elevator:  which are on the tail of a plane, help an airplane go up and down, which is called as a Pitch, Elevator can be compared to a discussion on helping the subordinate to understand their ups and downs in their performance and help them to realize the need to take it positively for next journey

An effective pilot not only knows how to fly the Aircraft, he also knows the functioning of the Aircraft, similarly an effective Leader not only knows how to lead a team, he/she knows what makes a team function effectively.

Let the Leadership be a smooth journey towards a strong Vision

By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
